The Webster Park Volleyball court was the center of attention as the Anguilla National Volleyball Championships continued over the weekend.  On Saturday the Long Bay Sea Gulls and Destroyers tangled in a five set game.  Members of the Destroyers over flowed with confidence and made many unnecessary errors.  The Long Bay Sea Gulls capitalized on them won the game with a score line of 25, 15:  19,  25; 25; 17, 20,25 and 15, 11.

      On Sunday evening the ladies champions Spikas continued their winning ways as they tormented the arch nemesis After Shock.  Connie was on fire with her sets as hitters Khalida, Ludiann and Vivian were unstoppable.  Despite the deluge of points Marsha Edwards and her team mates made a valiant effort.  Marsha was hitting the ball with extra venom as she tried rallying her team to victory unfortunately it was not to be. The Score line was 25,19; 25,12 ; 25, 11.

      Sunday night’s final game could be compared to the tasting of a vintage wine, it was good to the last drop.  As the Hylanders played Uprising it was actually the best scorer and blocker in the Leeward Islands Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson versus the second best blocker Ian “Tucker” Connor and the best setter Lester “Fishy” Connor.  The game was all it should be as both teams blocked and spiked effectively.  In the first set Lester “Fishy” Connor ran through his gamut of  sets as he used quick, medium, high and back sets to deceive his opponents.  It was effective and signaled the demise of Hylanders in the first set. However the Hylanders responded positively mainly through the unstoppable hitting of Sherwin Skywalker Richardson.

      With both teams winning on set, Uprising began dismantling the hitting attack of Hylanders.  They completely blocked out Randy “Swagat” Thompson and Perry Richardson and forcing Sherwin Skywalker Richardson to do all the work.  The tactic paid off; soon the Leeward Islands best setter began feeing all his hitters, the sets they liked.  The pillaging of Hylanders ended mercifully as uprising won the remaining three sets with scores of 25,13; 24,26; 25,16; 25, 18.
